James B. Young, MD

James B. Young, MD, serves as Emeritus Executive Director of Academic Affairs at the Cleveland Clinic, where he led research and education activities and promoted their importance to the enterprise mission. He also served as Professor of Medicine and Executive Dean of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University from 2009 to 2018. Dr. Young served as Co-Founder of the Kaufman Center for Heart Failure and held the George and Linda Kaufman Endowed Chair. An expert in heart failure, heart transplantation, donor organ procurement, and mechanical circulatory support, he served as Study Chairman of the NIH, FDA and CMS Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) and was a member of two National Academy of Medicine task force committees studying organ transplantation. A graduate of Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine, he is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a past President of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
