Patrick Conway, MD, MSc

Patrick Conway, MD, MSc, is Chief Executive Officer of Care Solutions at Optum at UnitedHealth Group. Previously he served as President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, and Deputy Administrator for Innovation and Quality and Chief Medical Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He is considered one of the driving forces behind the national movement to value-based care, with health care payments tied to quality and innovation. Dr. Conway earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and his master’s degree in health services research and health policy from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2014 and received the President’s Senior Executive Distinguished Service Award, and was selected as a Master of Hospital Medicine from the Society of Hospital Medicine. He is a practicing pediatrician.
